James and the Giant Peach: Test Scenes

Below are several test shots showing what the characters might move like. The amount of detail and smoothness is truly amazing. Watch the Grasshoppers coat tails as he walks. Notice how each puppet moves to convey a personality - there is no mistaking what they are like.
Some of the other animators who created these tests are: Mike Belzer, Richard Zimmerman, Trey Thomas, Anthony Scott, Mike Johnson, Justin Kohn, Dan Mason, and Paul Berry.
Here are some of Webster Colcord's shots as he recorded them during actual final animated shots. It is framegrabber footage that was shot with a camera alongside the animation camera.
"The voice in the tests for the Centipede is Bruno Kirby, which was later replaced before full animation production started with Fisher Stevens, then finally Richard Dreyfuss re-recorded (looped) all the dialogue for the Centipede. Dreyfuss was Disney's choice."
