This year, on June 29th, one of the greatest stop motion animators and special effects wizards of all time will enjoy his 90th year upon the Earth. During those 90 years, Ray Harryhausen has taken us on adventures through mythical lands with heros like Jason, Sinbad, and Perseus, back in time a million years, and he has shown us the monsters that lurk beneath the sea. Through special effects and the magic of Dynamation, Harryhausen has shown a generation how to dream. In celebration of those films and fantasies, we are throwing one heck of a birthday bash! We are having a Tribute to Harryhausen Stop Motion Film Festival and the best part is that you get to take part! Create your own stop motion tribute by way of a birthday greeting, using your favorite characters in a new way, or creating a new myth in his style, share it with us and we'll share it with the world! We'll have a live show on his birthday to show your films and to talk about Ray. It will be a ton of fun! |

Official Guidelines: Keep with the theme. This is a special contest celebrating the life and works of Ray Harryhausen and all entries should reflect some aspect of his life. (Films, technique, or style)
Keep it stopmotion. Puppet animation is preferred, as Harryhausen created incredibly lifelike creatures, but quality claymation, toymation, cutout animation, and others are definitely welcome!
Keep it family friendly. No gore, no nudity, no objectionable language. If you aren't comfortable showing it to your mom, why should we show it to ours?
Any length is welcome. While we will accept videos of any length, showing time at the festival is limited. So why waste your time on a 3 minute intro? Let's see that marvelous animation!
Deadline: June 29th is now the deadline for the video tributes to be shown, however we will accept entries through the rest of Rays 90th year. All entries that are submitted on disk or for download to be sent to Ray must be in by the 29th.
Uploading Videos: In order for us to find your video, you will need to upload at least one to YouTube with the words harryhausen90 in the title so a search will show all tribute videos in a list.
Submit your film...on disk or download to us and we will put it on a compiliation DVD that will be sent directly to Ray Harryhausen himself. Entries will be reviewed for quality and content to make sure they are acceptable and in accordance to the rest of the rules.
And that's it! Get creating, Get animating, Get busy!! Time is short and all of the entries will need to be submitted by June 29th, 2010 to be ready for the great one's birthday!
