Marc Spess : Creativity is fun, when you have the time to be creative...

Hello marc.
You can watch my videos? Want to improve my animation? I can give advice?

thanks
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Wednesday, 07 November 2012 18:47

Hey, it looks good. I would just keep at it. Even the best animators and sculptors are always evaluating their own work and improving on it.

Kirsten Hagberg
Hey Marc, this is Kirsten/claytonanimations. I'm not sure if you've checked your emial, but I did send you another regarding a puppet fabricating question. I have the armature built, but I was wondering if I need to make a "skull" out of Sculpey clay (hardened) and then put a layer of the Claytoon stuff on it, or if I should just use the Claytoon stuff as is (if that makes sense).

If you could respond ASAP either via email or through here, I'd like to finish making my puppet this weekend. I only have about 10 weeks to make a stop-motion. I'm hoping for a 3-4 minute film, but we'll see how that turns out.

As I mentioned before, you have been a huge help to me. This is a big undertaking on my part, but I believe it is all worth it.

Thank you,

~Kirsten/claytonanimations~
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 21 September 2012 16:33

Hi Kirsten, I did reply - you might check your spam folder. Building up a sculpey ball or using a piece of wood is a good idea. That will help the claytoon stick. If you can hot glue a ping pong ball it will help keep it light also, if the puppets head is large. If you have any other questions just reply here or send me another e-mail.

Cool Guy
Hey Marc, a while back I ordered a how to build sets tutorial but the download link didn't work. Is there any possible way you could renew the download link so that I can download it? My account on your animate clay store uses this email: hyperbeast49@yahoo.com.
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 06 July 2012 18:24

Hey Cool Guy, I just reset it, let me know if it works out for you.

Cool GuyCool Guy on Saturday, 07 July 2012 15:48

Marc SpessMarc Spess on Monday, 04 June 2012 22:07

Hi Joe, thanks for the suggestion. We have a live chat area at the top of our page. Every Wednesday we meet at 8PM central to talk about stop motion news and lots of other things. I hope to see you there.

does claytoon hardin if you bake it??
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 27 April 2012 19:30

Nope, it will melt instead. Sculpey will harden when you bake it.

what are those books called that have the frames from someone walking, or a horse running or a bird flying. that we can use as a reference for animation?
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Wednesday, 11 April 2012 04:50

Hi Lance, the man who made those books was Eadweard Muybridge.

Hi Biju, your site is nice. It is very well put together and easy to navigate. I find the photography section interesting as well. Maybe your art teachings will make a big difference in the lives of some of the people in your country.

Josh/Squirpled
do u know when you'll finish zombie pirates?
it's really cool...what do u make most of the items in it out of (super Sculpey?)
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Tuesday, 20 March 2012 17:41

I can't say when it will be done since my life is really busy now. I use Super Sculpey for hard props and Van Aken Claytoon for the soft clay puppets. I also use foam latex.

I noticed you mentioned flexi sculpey somewhere. is it that bake and bend stuff! I bought a bunch of that bake and bend stuff for my class (i am doing an animation explorations class at my school) but when I tried it on a puppet, the joints just crack.. what is your experience with the sculpey stuff... I am going to have to have the kids remove the bake and bend and use regular van aken clay! at least I have not baked it yet! any suggestions?
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Monday, 19 March 2012 21:18

Experimenting with these clays is the only way to get a feel for them. They might have changed the formula since I last used it. Also when that clay ages it becomes harder. You can't bend it when it's thick too it has to be thin. It has its advantages on really small puppets or very if they are very skinny.

I've gotten the AS eyes from the store but noticed the back has nub on the back...would i be able to cut them off with a scrollsaw?
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Thursday, 23 February 2012 07:36

Hey Jordan, yes you can. You can file it with hand files and sand paper also, they are plastic. Just be careful of your fingers!
