Description
Creating - Banned commercial not shown in the US - Shakycow Orange Juice This video took just over 30 minutes to film and it shows the basic process I used to cut each of the oranges in the animation/ mock commercial. Once cut, I would hot glue the orange (posed) onto an aluminum twisted wire armature and then mount that onto rigid skewers or various other devices to hold the weight for animating. Going from a simple orange to a pose-able "puppet" would take about 75 minutes and if something went wrong along the way (such as the tear on the left arm in this video), I'd have to begin again with a new orange. I found I had about 4 hours to work with the orange, from the first incision, before the peel would become stiff and no longer useable for animation. This gave me (about) 2.5 hours to finish filming a shot or I'd have to start over and try again. When I first started, I had to draw guidelines on each orange so I knew where to cut, but it wasn't long before I was cutting them freehand.
