Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

So, I'm really disappointed in my animation. It definitely is one of my low points. But I figured I might as well enter so there isn't only one entry. Although, I just cring when I watch how choppy some of it is. Anyways, it was a bit ironic how the the was "Picture Perfect" and animating it was a complete nightmare. My armature wouldn't cooperate, my character kept falling down, nothing would stay put together, it was just horrible. But it was my first time using an armature so I guess I had a little too high of expectations going in.

However, I did really like my character design, its a shame I didn't get a picture of hm before I  animated. I got fed up with him falling over and I ended up using tooth picks in the end to hold him up. Also, the cake was supposed to end up "picture perfect" but I couldn't even get his arm to stay up long enough to get the shot of him holding it up.

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

m_) First of all,

m_) to all the ones who think one day is not enough, or 3 days in the case of Matt, let me inform you that once penguin boy won by making one quick clip in a matter of a night time or so. In other words, don't let time ever discourage you to come up with something. Sometimes the exercise is losing that fear to time itself rather than finding the "perfect" time to use it, or the perfect time to come up with a picture maybe? (hehe...analogy intended)

m_) as for Hammy, sorry mate, but I am not so sure if I found the theme in your video. For this I give kudos to Kind of Boredom. The only disappointing thing there is your name, because that was NOT boring to watch. You made some great puppet there with expressions and dress that gives some personality. You used some nice movement making the picture. Maybe the plot was a bit poor but overall great animating!!!

m_) Good Job King!

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

Hmm I guess it's too late to put something together now since the date already passed...
Maybe I should say congratulations to the guys for the first and second place?

Anyway, I'm gonna push myself to enter the next one, since I'm now totally done with this school.
I had to redo an exam, I got a phonecall today from school that I got a good grade for it so that means I finally get a diploma after 13 years of school.
And now I'll have lots of time to get somewhere.
I'm already looking forward to the next competition!!!

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

Well, the day's not over yet.  I think you're partially right metal, I won't let time discourage me from entering this month's challenge.  I'm going to film something by the end of today and post it. I have an idea, some old sets, and a few puppets I can take out of "retirement".

I do think you have to be more realistic about the time frame though.  The intended film I was shooting for the challenge would be impossible to finish and still maintain high production value.   I was waiting on an actor's voice over work, still hadn't built-up puppets, and needed to build sets.   Even the best would find that task daunting to accomplish in a few days.

m_) @ Matt
m_) Regardless of being realistic, you need to be objective. In order to find solutions, do not focus so much in the obstacles, think what you can do, not what you can't.

you'll go somewhere, trust me.

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

Good point, metal.  I've been trying to think that way my whole life lol

Thanks for motivating me smile

It's a little after 1 am here and I finished a film for the challenge.  I spent 6 hours on it - i've never animated anything in that short span of time.  I didn't worry about shutter or even use a frame grabber...I just freehanded it kind of.  Very intense few hours.
Enjoy.

Wow, very nice Matt! Especially for just doing it on the fly like you said. It turned out very well. The music suited it perfectly and the story was great.

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

Good work, guys!  I can see difficulties, but also good stuff in all the entries.
A few of us were tied up with the Uncle Ray's Birthday challenge this month, which made it a bit tough for the regular one to get as much attention as it deserved.  Probably you'll get more entries for July.

Re: June Challenge - Picture Perfect

m_) Congratulations Matt. You really challenged yourself here, and time has been defeated.
m_) Good story, short, clear.
m_) Keep that attitude for future months.
