iMovie is terrible
Today I found myself wanting to slam my head onto the table because of how bad iMovie is. The posterization when I import my clips is horrendous, and I can take it no longer. Would working directly in QuickTime Pro solve the problem? The QT files are sharp! I do not optimize anything when I import, it is the Full original file. So frustrating. I have seen a ton of other people with the same issue. It's not so bad when it's a very flat image, but when you have dynamic range, it's quite noticeable: Flickr image of this problem
I'm finished using iMovie...it's ruined enough good animations! I swear editing in QT was the solution when I was doing it a while back. I'll report back to tell you what I have found.
Re: iMovie is terrible
I don't know how to help you at the moment - maybe it is an export issue (like the movie conversion settings aren't set to highest or whatever). I do feel your problems with just about every post-production video editing software! I wish they would, by default, just export the video as it was when imported. I hate how half of them auto shrink it and auto screw it up
. Well, hope you solve the issue.
Re: iMovie is terrible
I know exactly what you're talking about. I've faced the same problem. When importing files into imovie, the movie appears low-res, posterized, and grainy. I stopped using imovie and switched to Final Cut with no problems.
I know there are other free editors out there, but I haven't had experience with any of them.
Re: iMovie is terrible
Finally someone that will acknowledge the problem!
I basically went around it and I'm going to do my patching together in QuickTime 7 Pro. It works like a charm--as I discovered yesterday
30 bucks...not 1000! I know FCP is awesome, but I'm so simplistic when it comes to video, I don't need it.
