New Book Featuring Stop Motion Animators
Animators of Film and Television
My book - Animators of Film and Television - has just been released. It's a look at a number of animators, directors, and writers who affected animation and in turn, popular culture.
The book looks at artists across disciplines, who affected animation and, by doing so, changed popular culture. Our collective cultural sensibilities, what makes us laugh, and how we approach art all were framed or directed, through those featured here.
One of the artists featured is Ray Harryhausen. Other's featured include Henry Selick, Lotte Reininger, the designer of The Flintstones and other classic Hanna/Barbera characters - Ed Benedict, Frank Tashlin, Bill Scott, Matt Groening, Michael Maltese, and Terry Gilliam.
Animators of Film and Television is published by McFarland.

Re: New Book Featuring Stop Motion Animators
Thanks for the note. I would (of course) encourage you to pick it up. It looks at a number of animators (of all styles), writers, and directors who really changed the course of the industry and also, from a broader perspective pop culture. When it comes to stop motion in particular I've looked at Reiniger, Harryhausen, and Selick (and in a way Terry Gilliam who you could argue also should be in this category). While there are decades between each of them there is a very direct through-line for their styles and work output. The book offers an overview of their careers, analysis of their work, and some suggestions on "essential" viewing.
