hah, I usually can't stand that sort of thing  tongue . Call me elitist/nazi/whatever if you like, but I did that sort of thing when I was younger, before I had the internet even, and dislike that I even had that mindset. I see stop motion as being something that can only hold it's ground against CG if people start seeing it as being less "random blobs of clay" and more things like Peter and the Wolf (I know I talk about that film all the time, but it's a perfect example of where I aspire to be)

Re: Inspiration thread!

I remember when I was first starting out and I was looking on youtube and suddenly stumbled upon Peter and the Wolf. I was blown away. It was probably one of the coolest stop motion shorts I have seen. So it inspired me to start. And Marc, its perfectly fine to talk about Peter and the Wolf so much, anything that great is worth mentioning.

So if anyone hasn't seen it already, go watch Peter and the Wolf, the stop motion version. Its on Netflix instant que if you have Netflix.

Re: Inspiration thread!

It's on Lovefilm if you're in the UK, too. I got it rented from them and I really don't want to give it back! I've never seen it in a store around here.

Re: Inspiration thread!

I remember seeing it on TV last year.
I Watched it with my dad...
There's also a Dutch webstore that seems to sell it for $17.00.

Btw my animations are more like advanced piles of clay....
I gotta agree though, thos random blobs of clay on the desk are losing it's charm (if they ever had it)
There are just too many of videos with the same thing going on.
And I just hate it how lots of those people are into fighting and killing, if you know what I mean.

I just wanted to clarify that MackMations animations are not just "random balls of clay".
He is an amazing animator especially for only being 21.
I'm a huge fan of his work and I think that what he does with clay and any stopmotion style puppet holds ground with cgi pretty well.
MackMation is actually in LA this summer doing an internship with Robot Chicken.
He's going places for sure. Just had to throw my two cents in, don't like seeing his work called random balls of clay.

Not Random Balls of Clay...just saying.

To be honest I didn't bother to look him up at all, I've seen a few things of his and while I see the appeal, It's not the sort of thing I could watch for any legnth of time.
I can't remember the username but there's a user on SMA and SMM who does these really entertaining and smoothly animated peices with clay on a ridiculously small budget. If I recall the name I'll let you guys check him out.

Re: Inspiration thread!

While I agree that random blobs of clay can't keep people interested for too long, Mackmation seems to be able to create and give personalities to the blobs. So I think the blobs can work as long as there is some sort of development with them and not just, "Let's watch this car turn into a butterfly" sort of thing. For those who haven't seen his work, here is one of my favorites
