Future New Challenge Rule
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
Hey guys, glad that everyone put some feedback here into the idea of extending the challenge timelines. We're only talking about the timelines, but I can address the other two ideas that came up. MFlemJr was making trophies, but I think he's been hit with the busy life bug and he hasn't done anything with that. I don't really have time to make those either right now, which is why the winners get the virtual Kong armature head trophy image that they can put in their Animate Clay profiles. Check it out on the challenges page at the bottom if you're the winner.
Money being put in a pot sounds good, but there's always the question of who can afford it - who collects it "such as with PayPal", what about the transfer fees, currency conversion etc etc. I think it would be too difficult since it's a world wide challenge.
So, if all are in favor of 12 weeks for each challenge, I say lets give it a try. It worked on Stop Mo Shorts, everyone liked it, so why re-invent the wheel? I'll make the rule change on the challenge page today.
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
I like this rule, but I see the problem that people will lose interest. But it would solve a problem like the one I ran into for the July challenge: I had time early on in the month, but then got very busy...
Though the 3 months might cause people to lose interest, I would bet that people are still interested after the first month, they aren't gonna quite in the second or third month.
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
Alright, I've updated the page to reflect all the changes. Mainly adding the new date format and rule changes. Let me know if you guys like it, and Marc Hendry will keep it updated like he's been doing. If we get less entries we can re-consider the 3 month deadline, well....how can we? We only had 1 for July
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
@ Nick ... I completely agree. 12 weeks will allow for people to think of an idea, construct sets, puppets, etc. And even at that, 12 weeks doesn't mean people will finish
But, for the most part, everyone will get an entry in. As you said, it depends on how much work a person wants to put into the film.
@ Marc ... For the winners, I don't believe we're able to add html code to our profiles. I tried to add the kong trophy, but the image/code did not appear.
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
Hi Matt, the image code didn't work on your profile? Ok I will check it out. You'd need to put it somewhere in your About Me section. It looks like there's some unusual added code in there, mainly forward slashes /. Hmm....
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
Unfortunately with the latest version of Jomsocial - they stopped allowing HTML in profiles. That really stinks, it takes away the customization for everyone. I've tried a few things to get HTML to work, but failed
Well, looks like I'll need to change the info on the latest challenges page to reflect that. Sorry I can't fix that guys.
Re: Future New Challenge Rule
So i actually just set up a profile on Animate Clay tonite. Is this rule in effect now? In which case is it not too late to get started on a movie for the September challenge ? Looking forward to taking part in the challenges since I'm new to the stop motion scene and am still creating very simple movies. Which makes the knife throwing challenge a difficult one since I don't even know the first thing about making objects look like they're being thrown. That's where the challenge comes in I guess
