Chickens With Lips Project
Chickens With Lips Project
Project CWL is, well I plan for it to be, my debut in the claymation world. I have dabbled in claymation since I was just eleven years old in the West Australian PEAC, or Primary Education Academic Challenge, where three other students and myself made a short film about three minutes long. Since then I have always had a passion for claymation.
Now that I have just turned 17 and have graduated high school, I am looking to make my CWL idea a reality. With 'Secrets of Clay Animation Revealed 3!' under my belt, a brain full of crazy ideas and the hands to put them to paper, or clay, I have what I need to kick start the Chickens With Lips series.
I plan to release at least 6 ten minute episodes of chickens with lips before my 18th birthday on October 28 next year. This will be a huge accomplishment for me and I am extremely excited about this, I just wish I had the money to buy everything I need so I can start yesterday! With a $4,500 debt for a Nissan Patrol I bought from my parents and the $650 price tag of the DSLR I want, It may be a little while before I start shooting... I do, however, have an encyclopedia of ideas for CWL in my head!
CWL will be about two mates (chickens) who wind up getting jobs as I.T. technicians in a human dominated world... the jokes are more so aimed at computer users and the more computer savvy generation, my generation
.
I will be scanning in my concept art and my storyboards over the next month or two while I earn some money at my job at EB Games over Christmas. Then I have a family cruise in Malaysia for three weeks where I will be able to pick up my Nikon D3000 duty free hopefully
.
Be sure to stay tuned as I will try to keep you updated as much as possible. Any advice will be greatly appreciated and if you like what you see donations for my Nikon D3000 would be AWESOME!

Re: Chickens With Lips Project
Oh, just while I remember before I go to bed at 1:22 am in Perth, I'd like to mention that Marc Spess has pulled together some absolutely brilliant information in his huge 221 page book, "Secrets of Clay Animation Revealed 3!"
Thanks Marc, you're a huge inspiration! Along with Aardman studios as well as the great teams that brought us movies like Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Night... Or do I say morning?!

Re: Chickens With Lips Project
It's supposed to be bizarre
. Bizarre = unique
. It's based on my experiences working with an I.T. technician. We shared stories of how... clueless the end users are. These were usually extremely hilarious stories as he and I both have a vast knowledge of computers and assume that they should know what we know
. Thanks very much, that's what I was hoping
Good to see some support so early on
thanks,
Jarrad

WOW! it's been a while! Just got back from my month long holiday in Asia with my brand new Nikon D3100!!! also came home to find that EB Games wants me to work there again! so now I've got my camera and the steady income i needed, I can actually start making the chickens with lips clips!
YAY!!! haha.

Re: Chickens With Lips Project
OK, now i really need some help deciding what material i should make my puppets out of. I am trying to decide whether foam or clay is better on a wire armature. First I'll give some criteria I need my puppet to meet.
-needs to be able to walk and run
-sit down on chairs etc.
-will be 150mm or 6" tall
-need to be able to animate their faces (mouth is 'stuck on' so will not be sculpted int the head but i wanted similar eyebrows to Gromit from Wallace and Gromit)
When I can scan my concept art I'll post it here to give you a better idea of what is required. I'm also not sure whether to have the head as clay or foam if the rest of the body is foam. the head isn't distinctly separated from the body by a neck however and this could be a problem...
All constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Jarrad
Re: Chickens With Lips Project
hey guys,
Just started working on this project again, just about half way through my general story board for the first episode. Then I'm going to start on the full on story board and the script to go with it! I'd have done this long ago if my life wasn't so busy! I did only graduate high school last year after all. When i remember, I'll scan in the sketches of kyle and eric and tne storyboard to post on here, hopefully I can start getting some constructive criticism from you guys!

Jarrad
