Who is StopmoNick? He's one of Australias leading stop motion animators.
Nick Hilligoss was inspired by the works of Ray Harryhausen at the tender age of 11 and has been working on various projects ever since. He worked as a model maker for the Australian Broadcast Corperation for 19 years, honing his skills. Then he got into full fledged stop motion films to bring his models to life.
One of the greatest things about Nick is he isn't secretive about his work. He works out of his studio garage that he had built just to make his films. He shares pretty much everything he creates either on his Picture Trail image gallery here, his Vimeo account here or his YouTube account here. We're also lucky to have Nick as a member of Animate Clay. So if you'd like to become his friend you can find his online profile here.
More recently Nick created a Ray Harryhausen tribute for the Stop Motion Magazine site. It features familiar Harryhausen characters and a fun sword fight between Sinbad and a re-animated skeleton. You can watch it below:

He had a working studio/shop professionally built by contractors to his specifications .... it's a business. Just being a**l retentive
.... but I digress
Nick's animation has lots of energy and especially spontaneity and feels more like a 'live performance'. From what I can tell, Nick's style is, with more emphasis on straight ahead animation method. Other stop motionists, block-out or somewhat key-frame blueprint their animation. Just different ways to do stop motion and that's the beauty of it with these more hands-on animation methods whether stop motion or drawn 2D or similar, the individual animator's signature (compared to CGI) shines through.
