Padal Proshlogodnij Sneg

Padal Proshlogodnij Sneg

Have you seen this amazing Soviet clay animation?

Padal Proshlogodnij Sneg "Under Yesteryear's Snowfall" is an interesting film with an extremely strange story. It almost doesn't have one. But to me that's the best kind of film to use for stop motion. One that is so far from reality that you almost have to use clay to produce what's in your head.

The technique used is clay on glass, so there's an almost cel animation style to it. The characters have some squash and stretch, and are essentially sculpted thin and flat. The style is almost never used nowadays which is a shame. Sneg is broken down into two parts. If you want to read what they are saying in English, press the CC button on the YouTube player. If you can't see the CC button on the videos below, you can watch the film direct on YouTube here for part 1 and here for part 2.

Great stuff! I almost feel as though the tale is a whole bunch of fairy tales amalgamated into one. The animation was also fun to watch, as it was almost cartoon-like with its motions.

Inspirational!
