It's that time of year again where you dig up those old Christmas classics. Here's one that isn't as well known.
Back in the mid 80's all the school kids (me included) anticipated this latest Christmas TV special. It was hyped on late night TV commercials right at a time when the California Raisins and the Claymation process was at its peak. Most don't know about this special as much today as the Rankin and Bass specials are more widely distributed. However this classic used the Claymation technique, something not used as much now and maybe never will be. As clay is a much harder material to animate compared to silicone, foam latex and plastic characters. Here is the special in-full. Watch it before YouTube takes it down and enjoy.
There is a very nice interview by Ken Priebe featuring Webster Colcord and Larry Bafia who talk about their time at the studio. The article also talks a little about the Christmas special and their personal works over here. You can visit Websters blog here and Larrys blog over here. Merry Christmas everyone!
