Recently this short film was sent my way. The animation in it is so unusually good, who could have made it? When was it released? Where is this animator now? They must have made more films, and if so they must be even more amazing given the time span from which Pedro + Tony was released! Sadly, the story about this film maker was a bit unexpected.
What was Pedro + Tony all about?
"Pedro, the dog, and Tony (who just happens to be a chicken) are celebrating their six month anniversary as a couple when everything goes wrong. Will love win out or will the lesbian bears-next-door be getting new neighbors?"
Ian Enriquez who voiced the main character Pedro uploaded the film to his YouTube channel. If not for him, the film might be lost forever. Here is a bit about Gordon from his IMDB page.
"Gordon (Don) Thomas, was born in December, 1967, the fifth of six children. He grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago. His devotion to diversity, acceptance, and tolerance was a high priority, and is evident in his work."
His final film, Pedro + Tony? (2002), was shown at more than fifty film festivals in the United States, South America, Europe and Asia. It won the Best Animation Prize at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival.

Sadly, Gordon passed away from suicide in 2003. If you'd like to learn more about him, Misha Klein's On the Move podcast goes into more detail here.
Thanks Don Carlson for helping to research this post.
